The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, nicknamed the "Toy Train", is a narrow-gauge railway from Siliguri to Darjeeling in West Bengal, run by the Indian Railways. It was built between 1879 and 1881 and is about 86 km long. The elevation level is from about 100 m at Siliguri to about 2200 m at Darjeeling. New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget in Parliament on Monday (1 February) and the countrymen kept an eye on the general budget as well as the announcements about the railway. After budget, we are going to tell you about some such beautiful railway routes in India, where you must travel once in your life.

1. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (New Jalpaiguri-Darjeeling)

People from different parts of the world comes to visit Darjeeling and travel on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. This narrow gauge railway track included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1999. When the toy train passes through the beautiful mountains, people get to see quite a beautiful view.

2. Konkan Railway (Maharashtra-Goa-Karnataka)

This railway route between Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka passes through very beautiful plains and tunnels. These include rivers, lakes, rocks, mountains. This route is about 756 kilometers long and about 120 railway stations come in between. Tourists come from different parts of India and the world to see it.

3. Kangra Valley Railway (Pathankot-Jogindernagar)

Kangra Valley Railway is India’s heritage toy train, which runs on a narrow gauge line pulled by small and less powerful engines between Pathankot, Punjab to Jogindernagar in Himachal Pradesh. This train is a UNESCO World Guide, which passes through several bridges, gentle slopes and tea estates of Palampur. This toy train runs on Pathankot Junction via Jwalamukhi Road, Kangra, Nagrota, Palampur, Baijnath on the Jogindernagar route.

4. Desert Queen (Jaisalmer-Jodhpur)

If you are ready to spend a little more money for luxury travel then you should travel on Desert Queen train, which runs between Jodhpur city of Rajasthan to Golden City Jaisalmer. Through this train you can enjoy Desert Safari. In this train, passengers are served very tasty and fancy food. Along with this, the beautiful view of golden sand outside the windows makes your journey even more memorable.

5. Nilgiri Mountain Railway (Mettupalayam-Udhagamandalam)

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) was officially declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is a 46 km long single railway track route, which connects Mettupalayam to Udhagamandalam. There are 208 turns, 16 tunnels and 250 bridges in a journey of 46 kilometers. During the journey you can see the beautiful view of nature through dense forests and tunnels.

6. Matheran Hill Railway (Matheran-Neral)

Matheran, a small hill station in Maharashtra, is a tourist attraction because of its beauty. It is situated at an altitude of about 2625 feet above sea level. The journey from Neral to Matheran via hill train is quite exciting. There are about 121 small bridges and about 221 turns on this railway route. The speed of the train running on this route does not exceed 20 kilometers per hour. You can enjoy beautiful views during the journey from Neral to Matheran.

7. Himalayan Queen (Kalka-Shimla Railway)

The Kalka-Shimla railway line is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage. The track for this toy train was built during the British rule in 1898 and 1903 to connect Shimla, the summer capital of India during British rule. This route is major center of attraction for tourists visiting Shimla. Toy trains are an easy way to reach Shimla. This train runs on 96 km long track and covers 20 stations. During the journey, you can enjoy the panoramic view of the dense forests and mountains, passing through the dark tunnels, and watching the panoramic view of the beautiful plaintiffs.
