Railways to resume Mumbai local train services for general passengers from February 1

Mumbai local train services is starting from February 1, preparations are underway. CPRO, Western Railway Sumit Thakur said that we have formed many teams, the loco pilot cabins and the seating area of ​​the passengers are being cleaned and sanitised. The number of entry and exit points and ticket booking counters has been increased. Our staff will be available to regulate and control the crowd.

Mumbai’s lifeline, Mumbai Local is a better way of travel for the financially weak people, local trains take them to their destination in a timely manner. However, some changes have been made for the general passengers regarding time table of the train.

For the general passengers, the local train will be available from the first service till 7 AM, 12 noon to 4 PM and the last train till 9 PM. The remaining time the train will be available only for essential services like frontline workers, health care workers and other railway staffs.

Significantly, the highest number of cases of corona virus were coming out in metros cities like Mumbai and Maharashtra, due to which the rail service was completely suspended, but now it is being gradually reopened for the convenience of local passengers.

In view of the Corona epidemic, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal in October 2020 allowed women to travel in local trains in Mumbai and suburbs. Whereas earlier, service personnel working on the front lines in local trains and those connected with health and care services, graded by the Government of Maharashtra, were allowed to travel. On 16 October 2020, the Maharashtra government requested the railways to allow women passengers to travel in a local train during non-peak hours (11 AM to 3 PM and 7 PM to till the end of day service).
