There was a different scene at Ahmedabad Railway Station in Gujarat on Wednesday. Each TTE had Point of Sale (PoS) machines in their hands. TTE will now carry these machines for cashless transactions inside the running train. This will benefit both TTE and passengers that they will not have to bother for change money. Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway distributed 202 PoS machines under the Digitize Monetary Transaction Program, TTE was also a part of it. Officials said that the objective of this program is to promote cashless transactions. Soon PoS machines will be provided to all TTEs, so that trains can have complete cashless transactions.
Officials said that there are around 350 TTEs affiliated with Ahmedabad Railway Station. Apart from this, a total of 498 TTE postings are in Ahmedabad division including Sabarmati, Maninagar, Himmatnagar, Kalol, Mahesana, Palanpur, Viramgam, Dhrangadhra, Gandhidham and New Bhuj.
Yogesh Mishra, a former member of the Zonal Rail Users Consultative Committee, said that the use of POS machines will make people more confident towards the system. People will be assured that their money is going to the government and not in the pocket of any particular person. TTE will be relaxed there. They will not have to bother for the change, who write the amount left behind the ticket.
TTE has to collect fines from several types of people on the train. Such as passengers traveling with a weight of more than 35 kg, spitting or smoking in the train, traveling without tickets with a child above five years of age, who has a waiting list and is traveling, even traveling without a ticket himself, these excuses will not work. Division Railway Manager Deepak Kumar Jha said that 102 machines have been given in Vadodara Division, 80 in Mumbai, 78 in Ratlam, 113 in Rajkot and 89 in Bhavnagar.
